‘Election victory is not by individual or groups, but inclusiveness’

….says SLPP Secretary General aspirant

August 1, 2016 By Regina Pratt

An aspirant for the position of National Secretary General in the forthcoming national delegates’ convention of the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Mohamed M. Massaquoi, has stated that no individual or camps could claim sole responsibility for winning an election, as such requires inclusive solidarity of all members.

Massaquoi said he was contesting for a position which is the hub and pillar of the party, adding that the Secretary General should be the chief coordinator and strategist of any political party, adding that a political party with a strong secretariat could go on and win elections.

While declaring his intention to serve as the party’s scribe in during crucial multi-tier elections in 2018, the aspirant noted that a divided party cannot win an election.

He disclosed that he had been a member of the SLPP since 1991, but became an active member from 1995 to date.

He promised to reconcile various feuding factions in the opposition party if given the opportunity to serve as Secretary General.

“We need to address the problems of the party as we work towards winning the 2018 elections. We are from one family and we must have respect for ourselves,” he said.

He vowed to bring his rivals together and form a team of professionals to manage the affairs of the Party.

He revealed he is a Grand Chief Patron of the party and called for the need to form a united force that would lead the party to State House in 2018.

The SLPP lost the presidential election in 2007 when its standard bearer Solomon Ekuma Berewa lost to then opposition candidate and current President, Ernest Bai Koroma. The latter won re-election in 2012 and is due to leave office in earlier 2018.

Mr Massaquoi attended the Bo Government Secondary School and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Language, plus an advanced degree in Development Studies.

He also a holder of certificates in various disciplines, including safety and security, elections administration and management, building resources in democracy, governance and elections.
