Eight suspects arrested in Sierra Rutile killing

By Victoria K. Saffa

Police personnel attached to the Rutile police station, led by the Crime Officer, yesterday arrested eight people suspected in the murder of an SSGI security guard, whose body was discovered past Sunday at the Sierra Rutile Limited (SRL) mines site.

Most of the arrested suspects are security guards working for SSGI deployed in the area to provide security for the company’s mining activities.

A member of the investigating team, Saidu Bah, who is also a youth activist, confirmed the arrest of the suspects to Concord Times.

According to Bah, a tip-off was received from the wife of one of the arrested suspects, Sheriff, who is an SSGI security supervisor and leader of the team overseeing security on the night of the incident.

He said the suspect’s wife, who is a police officer, made a complaint to the unit that her husband arrived home late that night with blood stains all over his body and clothes, and asked her to launder the stained clothes, but that she refused and instead reported the matter to the police.

He said after the lady had made the report, the suspect was arrested that night, adding that the other suspects were arrested later based on the testimonies received from the prime suspect.

Meanwhile, police officers investigating the matter have taken all suspects to the crime scene “for clarification”, while investigation as to whether the death was for ritual purposes continues.

It could be recalled that on Sunday, the body of one SSGI security guard was discovered with some parts missing after disappearing from work for over three days.
