Ebola halts Ernest Bai Koroma trophy

DECEMBER 22, 2014 By Sahr Morris Jr.

The Ebola outbreak in the country has forced organizers of the annual Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma Trophy – organised by the Bombali District Football Association in collaboration with Hon. Chernor Maju Bah aka ‘Chericco’ in Makeni – to postpone the event.

According to one of the key organizers of the tournament, Brima Jalloh aka B.J., they were disappointed to call-off this year’s competition, noting that they cannot do anything in the circumstance because of the country’s current health situation.

He said: “This has been the trend for us every year and this tournament has helped us discover young talents, but we just have to suspend this year’s event and help in the fight against Ebola.”

The yearly tournament, which climaxes on Christmas day at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni, always attracts over 14 teams – both male and female – in the Northern Region.

The Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma Trophy, which has been played in different parts of the Northern Region, has seen the championship prize increasing every year.
