Koinadugu District in the North has lost its enviable status as the only district in the country not to have recorded any confirmed case of Ebola since the outbreak struck Sierra Leone some five months ago.

Yesterday’s updates from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation indicated that the district has recorded its first two confirmed cases of Ebola despite robust measures being put in place by the Koinadugu District Ebola Task Force to keep the area free from the dreaded virus, which has claimed the lives of at least 932 Sierra Leoneans with cumulative confirmed cases of 2,979.

Koinadugu had become the envy of other districts for the proactive measures adopted to ward-off the killer disease. Members of the district Ebola task force headed by Momoh Konte, though will be disappointed by this development, yet will be pleased that they had at least succeeded in keeping the disease at bay for five months since the index case was reported in Kailahun District in May.
