January 16, 2015 By Hassan Gbassay Koroma

One Claudius Juana, who identified himself as a social worker at Don Bosco Fambul, has been remanded at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre by Magistrate Albert J. Moody of the Freetown Magistrates’ Court on Siaka Stevens Street.

The accused was docked on two counts of robbery with aggravation contrary to Section 23(1a) of the Larceny Act of 1916, as repealed and replaced by Section 2 of Act No. 16 of 1971; and rape contrary to Section 16 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012.

Police prosecutor Inspector Sorie Conteh said the accused on 6 November 2014, at Jomo Kenyatta Road in Freetown, robbed Ms. Victoria Sankoh Kargbo the sum of Le4 million cash, one gold chain valued Le2.5 million, a gold ring valued Le2.5 million, an iPad valued Le4.5 million and 3 LG light phones valued Le1,350,000, all totalling Le24,880,000.

According to the prosecutor, the accused also raped his victim at her residence on Jomo Kenyatta Road in Freetown on the night of the robbery.

However, the accused pleaded an alibi, claiming he was at home when he received a call from a lady who accused him of having stolen from her.

He said he was left completely bemused and passed the phone to one of his brothers to talk to the lady. He continued that few minutes afterwards a male voice called him, urging him to return the items he had allegedly stole from the lady’s residence.

The matter will again be mentioned today.
