Three were houses were on Friday destroyed by a centuries old gigantic cotton tree which was fell down by some men on the instructions of one Faday Samura, who resides in the same community.
According to some residents in the community, the decision to cut down the tree was solely taken by Foday Samura, without even informing neighbours or community authorities.
Osman Kamara, whose house was completely destroyed, narrowly escaped death.
According to him, he was deeply asleep in his bedroom after the day’s work, when the tree fell down and destroyed his house.
“I would have been a dead man by now hadn’t it not been the intervention of God. I was deeply asleep but woke up by the commotion that followed the falling of the tree on my building. I was in my bedroom when I heard a blast.I was trying to come out when a block fell on my foot. I saw my house falling down on me but I rushed out before I could be hit further,”he explained.
According to him, he warned Samura against the decision to cut down the tre but he couldn’t heed,
He said Samura told him that he had spent his money to hire the service of people to cut down the tree, therefore he couldn’t relent.
He told Concord Times that he had lost all of his property worth millions of Leones, thus calling on the authorities concerned to take necessary action against Samura.
However,Foday Samura, who sponsored the project to cut down the tree, told Concord Times that he informed the community chief and some stakeholders in the community before he undertook the project.
