Former Deputy Minister of Housing, Works and Infrastructure, Kadija Olamatu Seisay, was yesterday (Thursday August 13th) convicted on one count of misappropriation of Public Property and fined Le60 million to be paid within 28 days or risk four years jail term.

The former minister was charged in 2019 to court by the country’s Anti-Corruption Commission for misappropriation of public property to wit one Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep that was assigned to her as official vehicle in the capacity as deputy minister.

In her judgment, the presiding judge, Justice  Fatmata Bintu Alhadi said the convict was charged with one count of misappropriation of Public Property contrary to Section 36 (1) of Anti-Corruption Act No.12 of 2008.

According to police file, the convict being the Deputy Minister of Housing, Works and Infrastructure on a date unknown between 18th of December 2017 and 30th December 2018 misappropriated public property to wit one Toyota Land Cruiser jeep.

The judge told the court that on 11th of February 2019, the convict was arraigned in the High Court but pleaded not guilty.

The judge added that she was convinced that the convict in her statement to the ACC admitted that a vehicle was assigned to her, but could not take proper care of it as though it was her personal property.

“In view of the whole evidence before the court and the law, and considering that the vehicle has been found. I therefore fine Kadija Olamatu Seisay, former Deputy Minister of Works, Housing and Infrastructure guilty of the offence of misappropriation of public property contrary to Section 36(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2008,” she said.

Justice Bintu Aladi ordered that the convict to pay a fine of sixty million Leones into the consolidated fund within 28 days or serve 4 years in jail.
