Presiding Magistrate of Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.3, Hannah Bonie, on Monday, 8th May, 2017, sentenced one Dauda Koroma for sixty days (60) to the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre in Freetown.

Dauda Koroma was convicted on two count charges of urinating and defecating in an unauthorized place, contrary to the Freetown City Council bye-laws of 2010.

The Prosecution had alleged that in May, 2017, the Freetown City Council Metropolitan Police Officers arrested the convict while urinating and defecating at the National Petroleum Filling Station around Up-Gun area in the eastern part of Freetown.

In the same court, Magistrate Bonie also sentenced one Bai Kargbo to ninety (90) days at the Freetown Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road with an alternative fine of five hundred thousand Leones (Le500,000).

Bai Kargbo was convicted for the offence of unlawfully depositing  garbage, contrary to regulation 3 of the Freetown City Council, prohibiting use of public places.

The prosecution had alleged that the convict in May, 2017, was arrested by the Freetown City Council Metropolitan Police Officers after he was caught throwing garbage on the street, an act which has the potential to cause health hazard to the Kissy Road residents in Freetown.

In her sentence statement, Magistrate Bonie noted that the issue of lawlessness was increasing in the municipality of Freetown.

She said the sentencing of the two convicts would serve as a warning to those in the habit of urinating, defecating and throwing garbage anywhere in the municipality.

She further stated that anybody who would be brought before her for such offence will face the course of the law.
