Dayu mining company’s Financial Controller, Zhang Ming, has told journalists that the company is set to provide more jobs to Sierra Leoneans from senior management, junior staff and other technical professional positions.

The decision, according to Ming, is to implement the country’s 2016 Local Content Policy which placed strong premium on the employment of Sierra Leoneans to senior management and other professional and unskilled positions.

According to the policy, Sierra Leoneans shall be given the first consideration for employment and training in any project executed by any enterprise or investor in Sierra Leone.

The Local Content Policy states that, “all enterprises operating in any sector of the economy; at least 20 % of the managerial and 50% of intermediate positions shall be held by Sierra Leonean citizens. The respective ratio will be increased over the time and after 5 years of establishment will stand at 60% for managerial positions and 80% for intermediate positions.”

“We have a management where Sierra Leoneans are part of the decision making body,” Dayu’s Financial Controller disclosed, adding that, “this decision  to give them Managerial positions is to fully implement the country’s Local Content Policy and help the Government in providing jobs to the youth.”

He said those Sierra Leoneans have the requisite qualifications and professional ability to perfectly carry out their duties.

Foday Sillah, a Lab Technician said he was sent to China together with two employees from the National Minerals Agency on fire assay training.

“I am grateful for such empowerment and capacity building,” he said. He added that he was among the first batch of Sierra Leoneans awarded a scholarship by Dayu mining company for month training in China.

The Human Resource Consultant, M.S Daffae, said their Media and Communications Manager, Community Coordinator and Consultant Exploration Geologists are all Sierra Leoneans, managing their respective offices to enhance the effective growth and development of the company.
