Dayu Mining Company Highlights Development in Tonkolili District

Dayu Mining on full gear to bring huge development

Dayu Mining Company has catalogued development projects undertaken since inception as a registered mining company in Sierra Leone.

The company, which is owned by Zhao Yu, operates a mine in close proximity to Kalmaron village in the Simira Chiefdom, Tonkolili District. The Licence area is in the east of Masumbrie and Maranda, approximately 9.64Km2.The concession is strategically located in the Sula Kangari Mountain, Northern Sierra Leone.

According to Mohamed Sultan Daffae, the company’s Human Resource and Community Relations Consultant, Dayu has supported Africell Telecommunications Company to provide over three hundred and fifty thousand United States dollars to construct the road leading to the erection of the tower pole, antennas and microwave links for mobile connectivity in Tonkolili District.

Highlighting support to education, Daffae said, “We have provided scholarships to school children and further provided the infrastructure for a conducive learning environment.” This, he said, was to support the free quality education for all pupils in their operational areas.

He stated that Dayu has provided jobs to qualified Sierra Leoneans from senior management, junior staff and unskilled positions to support the country’s 2016 Local Content Policy which puts strong emphasis on the employment of Sierra Leoneans.

On road construction, he maintained that they have expanded and improved on the poor road network to ease travelling for farmers and other business people.

He said they have also facilitated the opening of a bank account for the indigenes to deposit all monies meant for the development of the community. He added that Dayu has established itself as a player in support of football by delivering a donation of one thousand United States dollars ($1,000) worth of football items.

Alluding to the aforementioned, Councillor of Ward 183, Constituency 055, Mohamed Bangura said the football donation was timely and serves as a symbol of unity in the District among the Chiefdoms.

Councillor Bangura averred that one of the impressive developments was the mobile connectivity in the District, adding that, “this has benefited hard-to reach terrain that had no access to mobile network.”

The company’s Financial Controller Zhang Mining pointed out that the company has also embarked on the construction of a water dam in their operational areas. This initiative, he said, was to provide sustainable pure water facility in the rural communities.
