October 13, 2016 By Sahr Morris Jr.

Sierra Leone’s leading sports betting company, Mercury International , Wednesday presented a cheque of Le50 million to the Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) as sponsorship for this year’s T20 Division I league.

The sports betting company sponsorship package became the biggest offer ever to the Cricket Association and before handing over the cheque, the company’s Managing Director described cricket as one of the fastest growing sports in the country, citing the several international laurels they have and continue to achieve.

Michael said: “The Cricket association deserves the support it is receiving from us simply because you they have made us all very proud. Let me assure the Cricket Association of the company’s support at all times not because I am a member of the board but because of their outstanding performance they continue to show and keep the country’s flag higher.”

The Mercury International MD also said that apart from cricket, other sporting associations have also received support from the company because as an institution they believe in the promotion of sports.

SLCA chairman, Beresford Bournces-Coker, who applauded the betting company for such support, said that his association was grateful for the sponsorship because extra funding for their local competition has been a big challenge.

“With this sponsorship, the league is going to be very thrilling as all the teams will want to win the trophy. This not only for the association but for the country has a whole,” Bournces-Coker stated, adding that the Mercury sponsorship package would also boost their chance to identify and create a level playing field for more players to showcase their talent for selection to the respective national teams.
