Credit Recovery Agency to conduct property valuation exercise

May 20, 2015 By Alusine Sesay

The Western Area Rural District Council has contracted a Credit Recovery Agency to conduct property valuation exercise and collect property data on their behalf from Goderich in the west to Devil Hole in the east, in order to develop a cadastral system for proper development planning.

“The Credit Recovery Agency will embark on data collection on properties including houses, house owners, occupants, land and land owners to enhance developmental planning within the Western Area Rural District Council,” said Valuation Officer at the rural district council, Festus Gandor.

He revealed that the agency would do street mapping, naming and numbering, with a view to develop a new area zip coding system within the Western Rural District Council.

He said council had further mandated the agency to issue demand notes to property owners, collect property rates and enforce collection of property rates, thus encouraging residents to cooperate with the agency in the exercise.

Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Peter M. Kamara, said the agency was incorporated in 2013 and started full operations in 2014 with four key strategic business units – debt recovery, IT infrastructure development, resource and development, and financial management.

He said the agency was established to fill the gap in Sierra Leone as the country has the highest record of non-performing loans in West Africa.

“Today we are here witnessing the council mandating us to conduct a property data, re-numbering the entire houses within the district, identify streets, access roads and rename streets by issuing a generic name,” he said. “The council has also mandated us to identify and strip-off street names which are not registered with them.”

Kamara encouraged all to cooperate with their enumerators as the exercise would enhance development in the area.
