Celebrating women in football… Kenema to host inaugural Women’s Day Cup 2024

As a way of promoting and celebrating women in football, Kenema City is set to host the Women’s Day Cup 2024, and the matches are scheduled to take place from March 1st to March 8th, 2024.

The tournament which will be organized by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) in partnership with the Ram Kay Foundation aims to celebrate the spirit of women in sports and commemorate International Women’s Day.

With a focus on promoting gender equality and empowerment, the tournament will provides a platform for female athletes to showcase their talent and passion.

Sierra Leone’s National Female U17 and U20 teams, alongside their counterparts from Liberia will be participating.

According to the Football Association, this gathering of young talent is expected to produce promises fierce competition and thrilling matches as these teams vie for supremacy on the pitch.

“Beyond the scores, the Women’s Day Cup will serves as a symbol of unity and solidarity, bringing together nations and people from all works of life through the universal language of football,” SLFA said.

“As the matches unfold, fans can expect a showcase of skill, determination, and teamwork, embodying the resilience and strength of women in sports. Beyond the field, the tournament also serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of female representation in sports and the broader fight for gender equality.”

Through the power of sport, the Women’s Day Cup aims to inspire a new generation of female athletes and foster a more inclusive and equitable society.
