Carpenter remanded for sexual penetration

Magistrate Abdul Sheriff, presiding at the Pademba Road Court No.3 yesterday (Thursday 18th July) remanded one Ibrahim Vandi, a carpenter for sexual penetration.

The 20-year-old was before the court on one count of sexual penetration of a child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offense Act No.12 of 2012.

According to police prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent Yeanoh E. Koroma, the accused person on Wednesday 27th March, 2019, at St. Micheal, Hamilton in Freetown,sexually penetrated a child below the age of 18 to wit 17-years -old.

In her testimony, Detective Sergeant 1881 Francess S. Kpulun attached at the Family Support Unit (FSU), Adonki Police Station said she knew the victim and the accused.

She recalled that on 29th March, 2019, whilst she was on duty at the said station, a case of sexual penetration was reported and later allocated to her for further investigations.

She told the court that, she issued a police medical request form to the victim for treatment at the Rainbow Centre, and later when the endorsed medical request form was returned, she obtained statement from victim and witnesses.

The witness said on the 29th March, 2019, she and Detective Sergeant 10048 Kamara A. interviewed the accused person.

 “On the 7th April, I and Detective Sergeant 10048 Kamara A. together with the victim visited the scene of crime and we later charged the accused with the offense of sexual penetration of a child. I signed the charged statement as recorder and Detective Sergeant 10048 Kamara A. signed as witness,” she said.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Sheriff remanded the accused and adjourned the matter to Monday 22nd July.
