December 15, 2016 By Sahr Morris Jnr

Six teams; Force Admin (White), Force Troops (Yellow), Joint Unit (Red), 3 Infantry Brigade (Green), 4 Infantry Brigade (Orange) and 5 Infantry Brigade (Blue) would  battle in this year’s Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) three days Boxing championship.

The tournament, which  would be organized under the distinguished Grand Chief Patronage of the President of Sierra Leone, Commander-in-Chief of RSLAF, Minister of Defence and Grand Commander of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai-Koroma, would  run from Thursday 15th to Saturday 17th December, 2016 at the Hockey Pitch, Wilberforce Barracks in Freetown.

According to Captain Yayah Brima, the competition has been divided into three stages; elimination, semi-final and grand finale, adding that 10 categories of bouts would be observed at every stage of the competition.

“This competition helps the RSLAF to enhance good civil-military relationship. It is also designed to test the physical fitness of its personnel and to identify talents for the RSLAF Boxing team and, by extension, to earmark boxers for the national Boxing team,” Cpt. Brima said, adding that as it would be  primarily conducted to promote civil-military relationship, the observance of the competition by the public  would be free of cost.

Ten (10) categories of bouts that would be observed at every stage of the competition are; Light
Weight (48 Kg), Fly Weight (52 Kg), Bantam Weight (55 Kg), Feather Weight (57 Kg), Light Weight (60 Kg), Light Welter Weight (64 Kg), Full Welter Weight (69Kg), Light Middle Weight (71 Kg), Middle Weight (75Kg) and Heavy Weight (81 Kg).
