Bollore Africa Logistics last Thursday (14 August) presented a cheque of Le50 million to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation as their own contribution to aid the fight against the deadly disease.
Speaking at the presentation, the company’s General Manager, Marc Gerard, stated that their contribution is aimed at combating the virus, which continues to claim the lives of Sierra Leoneans and put the public at great risk.
“We are here to make a contribution of Le50 million to the Ebola fund, joining in the fight to eradicate this dreadful disease which has put each and every one of us at great risk,” he said.
He noted that steps have been taken by the company to protect their staff and the public by circulating literature on Ebola, as well as the provision of the basic disinfectants at all essential points and locations where they do business and operations.
Mr. Gerard opined that apart from their fiscal contribution to the ministry, a huge quantity of chlorine has been secured and will be presented to the District Health Officer in Port Loko for onward distribution to vulnerable communities in Marampa chiefdom, where they also operate, as well as in other communities.
“We decided to choose this channel as the authority can identify and properly instruct the beneficiaries on the use of the disinfectant. We sincerely hope the spread of Ebola is effectively controlled, contained and possibly eradicated in the near future as the people now trust in the work of the ministry and the action plans put in place by President Ernest Bai Koroma,” he added.
Receiving the donation, Minister of Health and Sanitation, Miatta Kargbo, expressed her thanks and appreciation to the company for supporting the government to drive away the deadly Ebola virus from the country, and assured that the funds will be used for the intended purpose.
