Basketball: YSC engages YMCA today

By Sahr Morris Jnr.

The basketball rivalry will return to the National Stadium basketball court today as the Young Men’s Sports Club (YSC) engages their bitter rivals, Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) on Wednesday May 28 in the play-off of the National Championship.

YSC will be hoping to continue their good run during their first leg play-off which they won with 68-63, while the defending champions may want to push harder to still remain in the championship and fight to retain their crown.

However, YSC – who snatched away four key players from their opponents this season – are seen as favourites for today’s battle and could possibly increase their five-point lead from the first leg play-off. But YMCA still believes all is not yet over as they go for all in the best of three sets.

The tournament will continue on Friday at the same venue with other championship favourites, Cannon Royals, taking on Freetown Lakers. Success for the Royals, who were last season’s runners-up, could possibly see them face the eventual winner between YSC and YMCA in the play-off final.
