Investigating officer of an assault and malicious damage case involving a journalist, Superintendent John Sesay, has disclosed that one of the perpetrators Sanusi Bruski Kargbo is on the run and that they would soon issue an arrest warrant for him.
Superintendent Sesay disclosed that they have obtained statement from another perpetrator, the disgraced former Freetown City Council Mayor Hebert George Williams, adding that the files would soon be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
It could be recalled that during the runoff election on Saturday, 31st March, 2018 the duo of Sanusi Bruski and Herbert William with thugs under their control attacked Patrick Jaiah Kamara of Concord Times and other journalists around Lumley, west of Freetown.
The duo and their goons inflicted injury on the young journalist. A canon camera and digital recorder belonging to Concord Times also got damaged and lost respectively in the melee. Patrick also sustained bruises on his chest, and was left with a black eye, swollen temple and cheek. He lost his money in the attack and had to see a medico for treatment.
It is now over a month since the matter was reported to the Lumley Police Station for investigations. The victim and his two witnesses – the editor of Concord Times and another reporter who witnessed the attack – have all made statements to the police.
Meanwhile, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists had called on the police to expedite the investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice, as justice delayed is justice denied.
