As January 2016 Criminal Session commences…

Bench warrant for 122 jurors

As the High Court of Sierra Leone commences the January 2016 Criminal Session yesterday, Justice Miatta Samba issued bench warrants for 122 jurors, while warrants were also issued for an undisclosed number of accused persons who are on bail but did not show up at the call-over ceremony.

According to Justice Samba, only nine out of 131 jurors were present at yesterday’s call-over ceremony, adding that such was not in the interest of justice.

The High Court of Sierra Leone, during its January 2016 Criminal Session, has set for trial fifty-four (54) fresh cases for various offences – murder, manslaughter, robbery with violence, wounding with intent, sexual penetration, obtaining money by false pretence, sacrilege, larceny, office breaking, arson etc –  committed to the superior court by various magistrates.

Justice Samba, in addition, remanded to the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road Abdul Fullah, Alhassan Jalloh and Edwin Manga, who are standing trial for the offences of conspiracy to commit murder and murder contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

According to the prosecution, the trio on diverse dates between 10 and 12 September, 2014 conspired to murder one Francis Kamara in Freetown.
