By Jariatu Bangura

As part of their 62nd anniversary celebrations, National Secretary-General of the Kenema Old Students’ Association, KOSA, has disclosed that the alumni association would dish out Le.7m to outstanding teachers and pupils who got the best results in the Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE, and other related exams.

Bockarie Enssah said Le.3m worth of cash prizes would go for standard pupils and Le.4m for outstanding teachers who have performed excellently in specific subjects, adding that the event would showcase the successes of past students of the school as well as express gratitude to recipients for their role in promoting the ideals of the association and development efforts of the school.

He said the awards would serve as their modest, but very honourable and meaningful way of acknowledging the invaluable contributions the various winners might have rendered to the school, and highlight their accomplishment in public life, noting that it would also provide an opportunity for the awardees and colleagues to meet with former school and classmates and reflect on the good old days in the school.

According to Mr. Enssah, six former alumni approved for the awards include Mr. Edward Yamba Sesay, Proprietor of Eddy Kay Enterprises; Mr. Noah Dauda Dabeni of Lime Line; Mr. Morie Amara of Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources; Mr. Suffian Fofanah, Office of National Security; Mr. Samuel F. Jabbie, Bank of Sierra Leone; and Mr. Brima Aruna of Eastern Polytechnic.

“Cognizant of the historical fact that the school is a community school, the Board of Governors, administration of the school and KOSA annually visit and interface with institutions, eminent persons and organization in the Kenema community. In our desire to contribute to the nation building on Thursday 24th April, we will interface with Regional Headquarters of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) in Kenema,” he said.

He commended NASSIT and management for their modest but meaningful contribution towards KOSA 2014 celebration.
