APC Regional Chair accused of dividing constituency

May 26, 2015 By Ibrahim Tarawallie

The ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) Member of Parliament representing Constituency 104, east of Freetown, has accused the party’s Regional Chairman-West, Momodu Alieu Pat-Sowe, of dividing his constituency.

Hon. Alpha Babatunde Lewally claimed that the motive behind the visit of Mr. Pat-Sowe, who is also Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, to Moa Wharf community few weeks ago when Ebola ravaged the area, was not to console victims but to effectuate divide between him (Hon. Lewally) and his constituents.

Hon. Lewally had been accused of neglect by some of his constituents who claimed he abandoned them when the slum community was worse hit by the deadly virus. He denied the allegation, saying he could not visit them at the height of the epidemic because he was away in Europe with the president.

He said he was not surprised by the embarrassment he received from some aggrieved residents of Moa Wharf when he visited the community a week ago to console and present bags of rice and US$200 to victims of the Ebola disease.

“Honestly, I am not surprised by the actions of some residents in the community when I went there to donate to those affected by the Ebola. It is the handiwork of the Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister, Alieu Pat-Sowe. He is bent on dividing my constituency, but he will not succeed,” claimed Hon. Lewally.

It could be recalled that when the ruling party lawmaker visited Moa Wharf community recently to console and donate to victims of the Ebola scourge, he was booed at by some residents who accused him of neglect when they were recording high Ebola cases.

But the ruling party lawmaker has accused the party’s Regional Chairman-West of fomenting trouble in his constituency, as he had visited the community, which is part of his constituency, to donate items to Ebola victims without his or the consent of Constituency Chairman, Shitta Kamara.

“Pat-Sowe has no right whatsoever to visit my constituency without my approval. He should know that I am the head of this constituency and should be informed when he wants to make any visit. I will ensure that I bring him down,” he vowed.

Meanwhile, Mr. Pat-Sowe could not be reached for his comment on the issue despite several attempts to get his reaction.
