APC Karamoh Kabbah, 22 others still guests at Pademba Prisons

Presiding Magistrate at the Pademba Road Court No.1, Hannah Bonnie, last Friday (9th August) remanded the Organising Secretary of the main opposition All People’s Congress(APC), Karamoh Kabbah, former Member of Parliament  for Constituency 93, Hon.Dauda Kallon and 21 others at the Male Correctional Centre for alleged Riotous conduct.

They were denied bail on their second appearance because led defense  Counsel, Lansana Dumbuya, applied for the matter to be adjourned so as to enable him thoroughly read the statement of the first and second witnesses.

He also pleaded that he wanted to have conference with his clients so as to better understand the matter and prepare his defense arsenal.

Magistrate Bonnie denied the accused bail due to the seriousness of the matter.

The 23 accused persons made their second appearance before Magistrate Bonnie on 22 counts of Riotous conduct, disorderly behaviour, throwing missiles, malicious damage, grievous bodily harm, wounding with intent, , threatening language, public insult, assault occasionally bodily harm, provocation and abusive language with other related chargers.

According to the police charge sheet, the accused persons on Monday 29th July 2019, at Trera drive, Hamilton village in Freetown, allegedly attacked the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Parliamentary aspirant for Constituency 110 at Hamilton Village, ahead of the August 24 by-election.

It was also alleged that during the attack, they assaulted the aspirant and other persons, and that the resident of one Fatmata Barrie valued Le300million was maliciously damaged.

In addition, Jackson’s house valued Le59million and Benz ML car valued 17,000USD were allegedly damaged by the accused persons.

Led in evidence by State Counsel, Lawyer J.A.K. Sesay, PW 2 Sahr Sam Ansumana, said he recognised the third accused,Karamoh kabbah and the others who reside at Hamilton village.

He recalled on the day of the alleged incident.

He said on that day, he was coming from town atop a motorbike at around 5-6pm when he saw a group of people entering into the compound of the complainant (Josephine Jackson).

He claimed that three of the accused identified themselves to him and started abusing his mother and that he later asked the bike rider to use another route.

He told the court that after the rider used another route, he went to one of his cousins and that as soon as he arrived he heard people shouting that “they are coming!

He alleged that the group of invaders started pelting stones all over the place and that he saw the 3rd, 5th and 14th accused persons.

He further claimed that the complainant then called on the police through her mobile phone, reporting that her house had been attacked by APC supporters.

He added that from that moment there was tension all over the compound and that some of the accused persons entered into the house of the complainant led by the third accused who was saying “advance we want her dead.”

He claimed that he later saw the first accused and others holding gallons of fuel, cutlasses and other deadly weapons, adding that the 3rd accused instructed them to burn down the car.

He further claimed that he was also attacked by the accused persons, who took his backpack containing one Maxinus computer, one IPhone 7 and other documents.

The witness alleged that he saw the first accused carrying a ladder and jumped into the compound, and that he was holding a stick which he used to hit the complainant on her left leg.

He said on the next day he made statement at Criminal Investigations Department  headquarter.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Bonnie adjourned the matter to Wednesday 14th August for cross examination.
