Alleged rapist Police officer sent to High Court

Sexual matter involving one police officer, Joseph Kamara, who allegedly sexually penetrated twelve (12) years old girl, was yesterday committed to the High Court by Magistrate Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara for trial.

Dr. Binneh-Kamara stated that the prosecution summoned two witnesses, and that the evidence adduced in court against the accused person was sufficient to warrant his committal to the high court.

“I have been through the evidence in this matter and I am satisfied that the accused does have a question to answer pursuant to the offences as charged. I therefore commit this matter to the High Court for trial,” he ruled.

Earlier, Detective Sergeant 2093, Lamin Amara, told the court that on 11th January, 2017, while on duty, the victim accompanied by her aunt, made a report to the Hasting Police Station against the accused.

He said statements were  was obtained from both the victim and her aunt, adding  that a  police medical request form was issued to the victim for examination and treatment at the rainbow centre, Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH).

Sergeant 2093 Amara stated that on Thursday, 12th January, 2017, he and detective police constable 15134 Sogbeh, cautioned and questioned the accused and obtained statement from him.

He said on Tuesday, 7th February, 2017, he charged the accused with the offence of sexual penetration and also obtained charge statement from him.

The accused was before the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1 on a count’s charge of sexual penetration contrary law.

According to the charge sheet, the accused on Tuesday, 10 January 2017, at New Site, Jiu, did engage in an act of sexual penetration with a girl child under the age of 18 to wit 12 years.
