Alleged forgery lands two in jail

Ramking Jacob Smith and Michael Thomas were yesterday remanded at the Male Correctional Centre by Magistrate Albert Moody of the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No1 for conspiring to defraud and forged a document belonging to one Momoh Vandy.

The two accused persons were brought before the court on six counts of conspiracy, obtaining chattel by false pretence, receiving stolen goods, forgery of document, uttering forged document and obtaining property of forged document contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

The particulars of offence alleged that the accused persons on diverse dates in September, 2015, with intent to defraud Momoh Vandy, conspired with other persons unknown to unlawfully agree to deprive him of two ML Mercedes Benz jeep and one Lexus RX jeep simultaneously to the tune of one hundred and twenty seven million, five hundred thousand Leones.

The prosecution also alleged that the first accused (Ramking Jacob Smith) on an unknown date between 1st October, 2015 and 1st December, 2016, obtained two ML Benz and Lexus RX300 jeep to a total value of one hundred and sixty- one million, two hundred and fifty thousand Leones, property of Momoh Vandy by falsely pretending  that he will pay the said amount for the vehicles on the date stated above, whereas the vehicles were not paid for on the proposed date.

Also, the second accused person (Michael Thomas) was alleged to have received from the first accused person, two ML Mercedes Benz jeep valued ninety seven million, five hundred thousand Leones, knowing the same to be stolen on the same date stated above.

The second accused on the same dates with intent to defraud, allegedly forged certain documents to wit an application for Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority’s vehicle life card.

He also allegedly uttered forged documents to wit Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority application form for vehicle life card, purporting it to be valid application form, knowing same to be forged and with intent to defraud.

The accused persons were sent to the Male Correctional Center and matter adjourned to Wednesday 13 September, 2017.
