Ahead of Bintumani 3:

Interest Groups Hold Preliminary Talks

May 23, 2019

Ahead of the proposed Bintumani 3 Peace and Cohesion Conference slated for May 23rd-25th May, 2019, several pressure, rights and interests groups are reportedly holding preliminary discussions to table what they plan to present at the conference.

It is reported that several civil society organizations, media professionals, student groups are engaged in mini-talks ahead of the conference to get a clear understanding of what they believe is affecting the peace and cohesion of Sierra Leone and to use the conference as a conduit to express their views and at the same time make recommendations as to how they would want these issues resolved.

Over the weekend keke riders in Freetown demonstrated their support for the Bintumani 3 Peace and Cohesion Conference by coming out in their thousands with banners and T-shirts to converge at the Aberdeen roundabout where they were addressed by their executive members on the importance and necessity of the conference. Political leaders were also present to explain to the okeke drivers that the conference is not politically-motivated and that it seeks to draw out from people from all walks of life their grievances and other matters that have the potential of derailing our hard won peace.

It is understood that journalists, medical professionals, even children are all holding mini-conferences ahead of the Bintumani 3 Peace and Cohesion Conference, which many observers say is good for the culture of national peace and cohesion as everyone considers the conference to be their own although it is an initiative coming from the Ministry of Public and Political affairs.
