For his contribution to Sports Medicine in Africa, the African Union of Sports Medicine has presented a gratitude & appreciation gong to the President of the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SLE).
Dr. Patrick Coker who also doubles as the Chairman of the Medical Commission of Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) received the special accolade at the just concluded annual African International Conference on Sports Medicine at the Concorde El Salam Hotel, in Cairo, Egypt.
The NOC-SLE boss, who was also the main speaker at the conference was honoured as one of Africa’s pioneers in the field of sports medicine.
The one-day confab which was organized by the African Union of Sports Medicine(UAMS) in cooperation with the Central Administration of Sports Medicine at the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports under the theme: “Prospects and Challenges of Sports Medicine and Prevention Methods in the Olympic Games during Corona Pandemic” provide a platform that shared the latest updates and developments of the WHO and the precautionary measures in the Tokyo Olympic Games 2021, as well as meeting prominent speakers in the field of sports medicine.
It also brought together participants from different countries and allowed a fruitful exchange of knowledge and experience.
Dr Patrick Coker became the first Sierra Leonean to be appointed and Chaired the Africa National Olympic Committee Medical Committee in 2019.
