ADP vice presidential candidate endorses Bio

March 28, 2018 By Patrick Jaiah Kamara

The Alliance Democratic Party vice presidential candidate in the March 7 presidential elections has declared support for Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio ahead of the presidential run-off that is rescheduled to Saturday, March 31.

Madam Isata Abdulai Kamara made the declaration through a press statement and video clip which she released yesterday on social media.

But the presidential candidate of the ADP, Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, had indicated that the party would not endorse either of the two candidates in the run-off, but encouraged their members to support to vote for any candidate of their choice.

The ADP came fifth in the first round of the election with 1.1% of the total valid votes.

However, a leaked amateur video that is making the rounds on social media shows Kamarainba declaring support for Dr. Samura Kamara, the aspirant for the ruling All Peoples Congress, in the Temne local dialect.

Madam Kamara stated in a press release that Saturday’s election gives Sierra Leoneans a clear choice to choose between the two presidential candidates.

“The challenges we faced as a country require experienced, strong and disciplined leadership. Our country deserves a next government which cares for the people, respect the constitution, restores the dignity of our country and provide opportunity for all Sierra Leones regardless of tribe, region or political affiliation,” she states in the release.

Madam Kamara thanked the leadership of the ADP for reposing confidence in her to serve as their running mate in the March 7 elections and also commended thousands of voters that voted for their party.

“As Sierra Leoneans, we all have the duty to ensure that the majority of us who voted for change in the first round complete the change by voting for the presidential candidate of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party, Retired Brigadier Maada Bio, as the next President of Sierra Leone on Saturday, 31 March 2018,” she says.

In a related development, a group calling itself ‘Friends of Kamarainba Kissy branch’ has also resigned from the party and given their support to Bio.

The group said in a statement released on March 23 that their decision came as a result of the ADP leadership failure to uphold the changes that the party has preached.

“Our decision to resign from the party is borne out of the realisation that the change our leader preached has been betrayed and therefore, we can no longer be part of the party and allow continuity of a system our leader once condemned. We have therefore decided to throw our support for Maada Bio in the run-off,” the statement says.

The SLPP presidential candidate, Julius Maada Bio, will go head-to-head with Dr. Samura Mathew Kamara of the APC in very tight race this Saturday.
