ADM certified by PPRC today

April 7, 2015

The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) will today Tuesday 7th April issue a temporal certificate of registration to the Alliance Democratic Movement (ADM).

Addressing the chairman and leader of the movement and its supporters, PPRC Chairman Justice M.E. Tolla Thompson said political parties are a creation of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, and that they are established to participate in shaping the political will of the people, to disseminate information on political ideas, and social and economic programmes of a national character, and to sponsor candidates for presidential, parliamentary or local government elections.

Justice Thompson noted that the internal organisation of a political party must also conform to democratic principles, and that its aims, objectives, purposes and programmes should not contravene or be inconsistent with any provisions of the 1991 Constitution.

Speaking on how to register a political party, Commissioner Mohamed N’fa Alie Conteh reminded members of the ADM of the provisions stated in Section 11 of the Political Parties Act of 2002, noting that politics “is a serious business and should be treated as such”.

In her statement, the Secretary to the commission, Haja Mariama Seray Kallay, encouraged the leader and chairman of the ADM to also start the process of closing the company limited by guaranty so that it can be published on the gazette for objections.

Responding, ADM chairman and leader, Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, expressed his appreciation and promised that his movement will conform to the rules governing political parties in Sierra Leone.
