Mohamed Kanu, aka Master Bitustex, a popular Disc Joker and Mic Controller, an employee of the African Young Voices(Ayv) Empire and seven others were yesterday remanded at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre by the presiding Magistrate of the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1, Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh Kamara for conspiracy and office breaking.
The accused persons, Mohamed Kanu – Disc Joker, Alieu Vandy and Lamin Kanu- musicians, Laurence Peters, Mohamed Idrissa Dumbuya, Suliaman Conteh, Aruna Momoh and Saidu Dumbuya –all security personnel attached at the Ayv head office, West Street in Freetown, are in court on two count charges of conspiracy and office breaking contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Hawa Bah, alleges on count one that all accused persons on 27th February, 2017, conspired together with unknown persons to commit a crime to wit office breaking .
She further alleges on count two that the accused persons on the above date at Ayv compound broke into and entered the media house and stole certain equipment, properties of the management of Ayv Proprietor, Junior Navo.
In his bail application, counsel representing the accused, C. Campbell, said they would not jump bail if granted, and that they were not flight risk.
He further informed the court that the accused persons had already spent 15 days in police custody.
However, the prosecution objected to the bail application on the grounds of the seriousness of the offences, adding that since the first accused was an employee of the empire, there was a potential that he would interfere with the prosecutor witnesses.
He cited the CCTV footage that already captured the image of accused on the day of the alleged incident.
It could be recalled that on 27th February, 2017, the African Young Voices Empire published on their television station that some thieves broke into their office and catered away properties worth millions of Leones.
Matter adjourned to 17th March, 2017.
