65-year-old in court for abusing girl, 13

One Bobson Conteh, 65, was yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara for an alleged sexual penetration of a 13-year-old girl.

The accused was arraigned at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1 on one count of sexual penetration of a child, contrary to law.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused on 15 April, 2016 sexually penetrated his victim, who is below 18 years.

Testifying, Detective Police Constable 10789 Francis Augustine Sahr Folleh, attached to the Family Support Unit at Grafton Police Station, told the court that on 2 May, 2016 he was on duty when the victim and her mother arrived at the station and reported a case of sexual offence against the accused.

He said a medical paper was issued to the victim’s mother for treatment at the Rainbow Centre, Princess Christian Maternity Hospital in Freetown, which treats victims of rape and sexual assault.

He said the accused was later arrested and that a statement was obtained from him.

At that juncture, Magistrate Dr. Binneh-Kamara noted that the prosecution had led sufficient evidence for the matter to be committed to the High Court for further trial.

However, the accused was granted bail in the sum of Le40m plus one surety in like sum.

The surety, according to the magistrate, should be a resident owner of property within the Western Area Urban jurisdiction and that the bail should be approved by the Deputy Master and Registrar.
