4 remanded for robbery & rape

October 26, 2016 By Hawa Amara

Four accused persons – Yusufu Sesay, Abdul Rahman Mansaray, Hassan Koroma and Abdulai Bangura – were yesterday remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown for allegedly raping a 18-year-old woman.

They were arraigned at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No. 1, presided over by Magistrate Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara, for also robbing the victim of property worth millions of Leones.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused persons on Saturday, 30 July 2016, at Creole Town in Tombo, in the Western Rural Area Judicial District, raped and robbed their victim.

In her testimony, the victim told the court that the incident took place at around 2 a.m. while she was sleeping in their cookery shop. She said she was woken up by her younger sister who informed her that thieves were around.

She explained that the accused persons then broke into the shop and that first accused Yusufu Sesay put on a Chinese light and gagged her mouth, while fourth accused Abdulai Bangura tore her pant and pushed her to the ground and raped her.

“After the fourth accused had raped me, he joined the others and they stole two jerry cans of palm oil, one stabiliser, one DVD player, one television, one extension, two bags rice, fry fish and steamed meat worth over two million Leones,” she told the court.

The victim also told the court that her aunty later came to the shop and discovered some items belonging to the accused persons, which they took to the Tombo Police Station, where she made a report before a police medical form was issued to her for treatment at the Rainbow Centre.

The matter continues.
