The Sierra Leone national U-21 beach Volleyball male & female teams on Wednesday departed the country to Niger for the U-21 Africa Beach Volleyball World Championship qualifiers, which will run from May 16-18.

The male squad includes Abu Bakarr I. Kamara (captain) and Patrick Lombie, while the females are Aminata K. Turay and Zainab Bangura.

The team is headed by the association’s General Secretary, Ahmed Khanou, who is also the technical supervisor/match commissioner.

In April this year, both teams qualified for this summer’s (2014) Youth Olympic Games to be held in Nanjing, China from August 16 to 28.

The Sierra Leone male team defeated their Ghanaian opponents by two sets to one in the final of the qualifiers, while the female team – despite failing to reach the final – booked their place to the Nanjing Games after they finished in third place.

This year’s World Championship is expected to be staged in Cyprus.
