Magistrate Komba Kamanda yesterday remanded three accused persons at the male correctional centre on Pademba Road for allegedly carrying small arms and light weapons without lawful authority.
Alhaji Foday Fofanah, Alfred Harding Jr., and Abass Sulaiman Sesay were arraigned on two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony and being in possession of small arms without license, contrary to Section 2(1) of the Arms and Ammunition Act of 2012.
According to police prosecutor Sergeant 922 John Dumbuya, the accused persons on Monday, 5 January 2015 conspired with some unknown persons to unlawfully possess a MAKAROV pistol, serial number B04474 and seven rounds ammunitions, at an Ebola checkpoint in Waterloo in the Western Rural District.
The prosecution also alleged that the accused persons were in possession of the said weapon for the purpose of trafficking it from No.30 Summerset Street, Murray Town, west of Freetown to Newton in the Western Rural District, without license.
Lead defence lawyer M. Pious Sesay applied for bail on behalf of his clients, citing Section 79 of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965, but the application was turned down by Magistrate Kamanda.
