Four accused persons were last Friday arraigned before Magistrate Dr. Binneh-Kamara for allegedly stealing the sum of Le70m from Sammil Hassaniyeh, boss of sports betting company, Mercury International.
The accused persons, Sahr Nyuma, Mary Bonkapuru Fofanah, and Hawa Bangura were before the court on two counts of conspiracy and larceny by servant, contrary to law.
According to the particulars of offence, they on Sunday, 15 May, 2016 at No.1 DFID Drive, Off Spur Road, Lumley, conspired with some unknown person to commit a felony and stole the sum of Le70m from the complainant’s bedroom.
In his testimony, Mr. Hassaniyeh told the court that the accused persons were his employees, with the first and third being cleaners whiles the second was a nanny.
He narrated that on the day of the incident, he returned home and discovered that his money was missing, adding that he subsequently made a report at the Lumley Police Station that someone had stolen money in his bedroom which was locked in a suitcase that was kept in wardrobe.
He continued that that same day, a Police Officer came to his house to investigate the matter. He stated that he led the officer to his bedroom and it was discovered that it was open, adding that the first accused (Sahr Nyuma) immediately left the house, while the bedroom keys were found with the third accused (Hawa Bangura), who cleaned the room.
The accused though were put on bail in the sum of Le50m and one surety in like sum, each, with the surety to produce a National Passport and title deed, being a resident of the Western Area. The bail should be approved by the Deputy Master and Registrar.
The accused are represented by A.K. Musa.
The matter was adjourned until 6 June, 2016 for further testimony.
