Three members of a secret cult group – Ogboni Ojeh – have been remanded at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre for the alleged murder of one Suma Conteh.
Morlai Conteh, Ishmael Bangura and Alimamy Kabba Sesay alias ‘Alimamy Costa’ were arraigned for murder at the Ross Road Magistrates’ Court No.1 presided over by Magistrate Abubakarr Binneh Kamara.
While testifying in court, Prosecution Witness No.1 (PW1), Abubakarr Jalloh of 40 Kissy Bye Pass Road, Freetown, said he recognised the accused persons and knew the deceased.
Led in evidence by Inspector Osman Minkailu Bangura, the witness (a driver) said that on 29th October this year the deceased told him he had been physically assaulted by some members of the cult Ogboni Ojeh, before he made a statement at the police post at the Kissy market, shortly before he died.
PW1 told the court that he took the medical request form to the police post after the deceased had died and he informed officers that the medical form was not endorsed because the victim did not take it to the police doctor.
“I went to the Kissy police station and the police officers requested for the deceased body and I made a statement to them and they later arrested the three suspects,” he testified.
He said the corpse of the deceased was conveyed to the Connaught hospital mortuary for an autopsy, following which a death certificate was issued by the public pathologist, marked ‘Identification Murder 2’.
After PW1’s testimony, defence counsel Julian Cole, representing the three accused persons, applied for the witness’ statement to be availed to him.
Magistrate Kamara upheld his application and adjourned the matter to 28th November for further hearing.
The matter is being prosecuted by Inspector Osman Minkailu Bangura.Top of Form
