21-year-old Salamatu Conteh made an appearance before Mark Ngegba of Court No.1 at Pademba Road and the matter was discharged for lack of prosecution.
The accused person was standing on a count charge to wit murder contrary to Section 1 of the Offenses Against the Person Act 1861, repealed and replaced by the Abolition of Death Penalty Act 2021 act 6 of 2022.
Police alleged that on Sunday, 16th July, 2023, at Sumalia Town in Freetown, the accused person did murder one Musa Dumbuya, his uncle.
It was alleged that the deceased was assaulted by the accused and as the result of the stab wound on his left side close to his chest, he was rushed to the Connaught Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The accused has made seven subsequent appearances in court and the state prosecutor, Inspector Mabel Tarawally, didn’t bring any factual witness or even any evidence in court to testify in court.
The police prosecutor told the court that she had made several efforts to get the complainant, who happened to be the wife of the deceased, to testify in court, but to no avail.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Mark Ngegba discharged the matter for wants of prosecution.
