A seventeen-year-old girl rape victim yesterday testified at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.2 presided over by Magistrate Komba Kamanda. She narrated her ordeal of an alleged sexual abuse by one Amara Turay.
According to the victim, the incident happened on 14 August on her way to hawk cooked eggs.
“On my way home at around 7pm to 8pm, I was interrupted by some boys who told me that they wanted to buy some eggs. They never bought the eggs but started chasing me. I was rescued by a lady called Carthy,” she told the court.
She explained that Carthy later informed her that there was not enough space to accommodate her for the night, but advised that she spend the night with the accused.
The teenager further testified that she spent four days at the accused person’s residence and that they continually had sex. She said she only returned home and subsequently explained the incident to her mother after she was chased out of the house by one of the senior brothers of the accused.
The victim narrated that her mother reported the matter at the Goderich police station, where a medical paper was issued for her to be treated at the Rainbow Centre, Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH) in Freetown.
The accused was arraigned on one count of sexual touching contrary to Section 20(b) of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012.
The prosecution alleged that the accused on 14 August, at Banga Farm, sexually abused the victim who is below the age of 18, to wit 17.
The matter continues on 3 November.
