Two men, believed to be in their 30s, are currently standing trial in the Sexual Model Court for allegedly gang raping a 13-year -old girl in Freetown.
The accused persons -Swaray Karim and Abdul Koroma, are before Justice Mohammed Bawoh on one count of sexual penetration of a child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offenses Act of 2012.
The state prosecutor, Patrick L Williams, alleges that the accused, between 13th and 20th of August 2021 in Freetown, allegedly ganged up and sexually penetrated the 13-year- old victim.
Foster mother of the victim, Ramatu Sesay (not her real name) testified in the trial, stating that on 14th of August 2021, she returned from her business and found out that the victim was not at home.
She said when she enquired the whereabouts of the victim; she was told that the victim had gone to visit her elder sister.
She narrated that she went to the said elder sister to confirm as to whether the victim was with her, but couldn’t find her there.
“I later went to my brother and informed him about my missing daughter. Both of us went in search of the victim on that day but she was nowhere to be found,” she testified.
She further testified that on the following day, she reported the incident to the Rokel Police Station and made a statement, while they still continue with the search.
She said one of her neighbours informed her that he suspected one Swaray (first accused), who was within the vicinity on the day the girl went missing.
The witness told the court that she went together with her brother, Antony, to Swaray’s residence, but couldn’t meet him at home.
She said while they were there, they saw Swarray coming from an unfinished building and that when they confronted him about the incident, he denied having knowledge about the missing girl.
She also narrated that she later went and reported the matter to the local authorities who forced their way into Swarray’s house where they met the missing victim.
She said both Swarray and the victim were taken and handed over to the police.
Doctor Suad Isha Kamara, who examined the victim, also testified in the matter.
She told the court that the hymen of the victim was raptured and swollen.
The accused stayed in custody and case was adjourned to 12 January 2022.
