12-yr-old rape victim dies

A 12-year-old girl, who was allegedly sexually penetrated by  28 years old Simeone Sesay of New Site, Blama Town, Small Bo Chiefdom, Kenema District, has passed away at the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown.

The sad incident was disclosed to pressmen by Don Bosco Fambul at their 34 Fort Street office in Freetown.

Mabinty Bangura, a staff of Don Bosco attached at the Child Shelter Unit, told journalists that on 4th November, 2020, they received the 12 years old victim and that due to her unstable health condition, she was referred by the Doctor attached to Don Bosco Fambul at During Town for advanced medical treatment at the Aberdeen Women Centre, where she was admitted

She said due to difficulties in responding to treatment, she underwent a surgery and was discharged from the hospital after her condition improved.

She said the victim was again admitted at the hospital after her condition deteriorated and that she underwent a surgery   at the Aberdeen Women Centre on 22nd January, 2021.

“This time around, she couldn’t show any sign of improvement and the coordinator informed the Director that the girl should be flown to Ghana for further treatment,” she said

She noted that cases of sexual violence were currently on the increase and that some of the victims were being abused by their biological fathers.

Hannah M. French attached at Observatory Interim Care Centre Department, Don Bosco said the victim had told her that the accused is a palm wine tapper based in Blama Town.

She said the victim had told her that she asked the accused for a cup of palm wine and that the latter in turn requested that they have a work into his farm.

She said the victim had informed her that after they went deep into the farm, the accused threatened that he will kill her, if she explains their encounter to anybody.

She said the deceased told her that after the accused sexually penetrated her, he abandoned her in the bush bleeding profusely.

She said the victim later informed her aunt that she had been bleeding and that her took her to the Blama Community Health Centre, where she was referred to Marie Stopes hospital.

 She said the victim told one of the nurses about what really happened to her and that she was taken to the Blama Family Support Unit and later referred to Don Bosco Fambul.
