One of the financial institutions in the country, Zenith Bank Sierra Leone Limited, has donated the sum of one hundred and fifty million Leones (Le150m) as support to the survivors of the recent flood and mudslide victims.
The donation was done last Friday at the Office of Vice President Dr. Victor Bockarie Foh on Tower Hill in Freetown.
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Zenith Bank Sierra Leone Limited, George Meze, said the donation was in support of the survivors of the recent flood and mudslide in Freetown in which the country lost people that could have contributed to the development of Sierra Leone, adding that it will also be useful towards the upkeep bereaved family members.
“Zenith Bank Sierra Leone Limited is gravely touched with the sudden disaster that has destroyed our energetic human resource. As one of the financial institutions that operate in Sierra Leone, and as we expressed our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, we would continue to support the government and people of Sierra Leone in this regard,” he said.
Receiving the donation, Vice President, Hon. Victor Bockarie Foh, thanked the management and staff of Zenith Bank Sierra Leone Limited for supporting government’s efforts in ensuring that the mudslide survivors are supported in this trying time.
“The President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, who is currently mourning the lives that have been lost, will hear of your donation. We have been warning people not to construct houses in unsafe areas but they never adhered. This is a national concern for us all and we are making frantic efforts in ensuring that things become normal again,” he said.
VP Foh said Zenith Bank has added value to the banking sector in Sierra Leone and it is attracting customers always because of its numerous services it offers.
“We are operating in a free economy and I want to use this opportunity to assure that Zenith Bank is protected by the laws of Sierra Leone. The money you have donated will be deposited to the existing accounts that have been opened and it will be used for the right purpose,” he assured.
He said government has in mind to solve the problem by constructing affordable housing for people living in disaster prone areas, adding that when that time comes government would count on Zenith Bank to be its partner.
He called on all Sierra Leoneans to put politics aside and put efforts together to ensuring the proposal for affordable homes for people living in disaster prone areas and survivors of the recent flood and mudslide incident, becomes a reality.
