Popular model and actress, Zainab Sheriff has won the prestigious West Africa Fashion Awards which was hosted in Nigeria on 26 March, 2014.
The award was received on her behalf by her compatriot, Ms. Ramatu Wurie, as she could not attend the plush event. Ms. Sherriff topped many other African beautiful celebrities.
Speaking on her success, a delighted Zainab said, “I wish to thank everyone that supported me. My Salone brothers and sisters truly came out and made this happen as I couldn’t have done it without the support of you all, at home and abroad.”
She especially thanked leading mobile phone operators, Airtel Sierra Leone, for their tremendous support to her. “Una tenki tenki [Thank you, thank you Airtel],” she said and expressed similar gratitude to Ms. Wurie for receiving the award on her behalf.
The beauty queen also thanked her record label, Sugar Entertainment, for the love and support they bestowed on her throughout the contest. “I would be remiss in failing to acknowledge my personal friend, Magdalene Coker (MCLYTE) and Lamrana Jalloh, for reposing confidence in me,” she said.
Zainab Sheriff was named among the 20 most beautiful African celebrities in 2014, and 2015 her blockbuster film “Elephant In the Room” hit cinemas in Nigeria, which in 2016, became the first Sierra Leonean movie to be shortlisted for the African Magic Viewers Choice Award.
She maintained that it was a good start for her movie to be nominated, albeit in one category. Just few days ago, her manager received an email intimating that the fast rising movie star and fashion icon has been nominated by AWOL–UK in the category of ‘Best Movie Star for 2015’.
“There is a saying that Sierra Leoneans don’t support their own. Well, this has just proved them wrong. Bravo! Bravo!,” she exclaimed.
