Presenter of the popular Monologue program, Dr. David Tam-Baryoh, was last night arrested by armed police personnel and whisked to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on alleged “orders from above”.
The officers did not state any reason as to why the journalist was being arrested, only saying that they had been ordered to effect the arrest.
Station Manager of Citizen Radio (owned by Tam-Baryoh), Abdul Razark Kargbo, told Concord Times the journalist was picked up in his office at Tengbeh Town and “violently” whisked to the CID by three armed police officers. He was detained immediately they arrived with him at the CID headquarters.
Kargbo said Dr. Tam-Baryoh was only allowed to be spoken to by his lawyer, Melron Nicol-Wilson, whose effort to have the journalist released on bail proved abortive.
SLAJ Secretary General, Moses Kargbo, said the association is concerned about the arrest of the journalist, noting that they will make a public statement on the issue after fully understanding the circumstances surrounding the arrest of the Monologue presenter.
