Minister of Sports Paul Kamara, through the National Sports Council (NSC), has ordered the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to, with immediate effect, reinstate the Southern Region Football Association (SRFA).
A letter signed by the NSC acting Director of Sports, Saidu Mansaray on March 16, 2015, stated that the decision to declare the SRFA as having resigned from the SLFA is subjective and should be withdrawn as it was not done in accordance with the SLFA constitution.
“We have examined the SLFA constitution and we noted that only the “congress shall decide whether to admit, suspend or expel a member of the association as stated in Article 9(1), which is only applicable after the matter has been decided by the congress…”
According to Mansaray, the call by the Sports Minister – who is the Chairman of the National Sports Council – is in accordance with the NSC Act No.64 of 1964 which gives him the mandate to control sports in the country.
The director further urged the SLFA to reinstate the SRFA chairman, Samuel Kamara as member of the Executive Committee as per Art.32 (d) of the SLFA constitution.
“Samuel Kamara, the regional chairman of the Southern Region Football Association, must be reinstated as a member of the SLFA Executive Committee as per Art.32 (d) of the constitution,” the letter urges.
