S/Leone welcomes new China Ambassador

To mark the endless possibilities of deepening friendship between Sierra Leone and the People’s Republic of China, the government of Sierra Leone last Thursday heartily welcomed the new Chinese Ambassador on his assumption of office in 2014.

Addressing a cross section of dignitaries at the Chinese embassy, Spur Loop in Freetown, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Frank Kargbo, said the government was confident that the New Year will bring endless opportunities and new vistas of experience from China.

“Sierra Leone stands ready to grow together with China as two friends should in every area of development, and China’s development efforts in 2013 marked a new trend in our national development strides with significant cooperation in various fields ranging from agriculture, infrastructure and industry to capacity building and human capital development,” he said.

The AG noted that as a government they will maintain the tradition of official exchanges at the highest levels, thus reaffirming commitment to the ideals of both Heads of State to promote dialogue, constructive cooperation and stronger collaboration for the mutual benefit of the two countries and peoples.

The new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Sierra Leone, H.E. Zhao Yanbo, said upon his first day in the country, he was deeply impressed with the hospitality of the people, as well as “the beautiful scenery and the blooming development of the country”, describing the society as a stable one with robust development.

“I’m delighted to be appointed as China’s Ambassador to Sierra Leone at this very important time, and I am fully aware of my responsibilities,” stated the new envoy. “I will exert my utmost to fulfil my duties by deepening the traditional friendship, strengthening the mutual trust and facilitating all-round cooperation between the two countries. I am convinced that with our joint efforts, our friendly relations will produce more fruits.”

He further said that the vibrant development of the China-Sierra Leone relations is inseparable from the support and efforts of all friends.

He extended his heartfelt thanks to the commitment and efforts of the government [of Sierra Leone] in promoting the China-Sierra Leone cooperation.
