It was a remarkable weekend for four Sierra Leonean players – Sullay Kaikai, Kei Kamara, Shaka Bangura and Ibrahim ‘Sorghor’ Kallay – who all registered their names on the score-sheet in their respective European and American leagues.
In the English League Two, Crystal Palace loanee Sullay Kaikai scored a brace to help Cambridge United defeat Mansfield 3-1 at the Abbey Stadium.
Kaikai gave United the perfect start, powering home a free-kick from 40 yards out that Sascha Studer got hands to but could not keep out. The young striker capped a dominant first half for the hosts with a second goal two minutes before the interval, as his short corner was returned to him by Josh Coulson, allowing him to fire a left-footed shot through a crowd of players and into the far corner of the net.
In the English League One, defender Mustapha Dumbuya played full time for Notts County who lost 2-0 to Crawley Town. In the League Two, Abdulai Bell-Baggie was an unused sub for Bristol Rovers in their 1-1 draw with Dover Athletic.
In the U.S. Major League Soccer (MLS), striker Kei Kamara continued his goal-scoring form on Saturday, scoring in Columbus Crew’s 3-0 victory over Orlando City. Kamara’s 60th minute strike was his fourth goal in six matches this season.
Also in the MLS, midfielder Michael Lahoud played full time for Philadelphia Union who were defeated 1-2 by New England. And in the U.S. NASL league, striker Shaka Bangura’s 48th minute strike helped Atlanta Silverbacks earn all three points on the road as they defeated Carolina Rail Hawks 1-2.
In Sweden, Ibrahim ‘Shorghor’ Kallay was on the score-sheet in his side, IFK Luleå’s 3-0 win over Carlstad United in the Swedish third tier league. The midfielder scored the home side’s second goal in the 54th minute before he was cautioned by the referee in the 60th minute.
Also in the same league, defender Ishmael ‘Jorjor’ Koroma made a return from injury with full time action for Nyköping in their 1-1 draw with Dalkurd.
In Finland’s topflight league, Hassan Sesay played for 85 minutes in Lahti’s 1-1 draw with HJK.
In the Portuguese Segunda, Ibrahim ‘Obreh’ Kargbo’s Atlético CP continues their poor run as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Oriental Lisboa.
