One of Sierra Leone’s renowned Sports journalists, Sahr Morris Jr. of Concord Times Newspaper and African Sports Media Network last Saturday September 30 2017 was awarded by the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) as Best Sports Reporting for the year 2017 during a ceremony held at the University of Makeni (UNIMAK) hall in Makeni.
The SLAJ media gong came just few months (April 2017) after he won the inaugural National Entertainment Awards (NEA) Sports Journalist of the Year for 2017.
As a committed, hardworking and passionate reporter, Morris thanked the almighty God for seeing him scooped another senior national award, adding that it always feels good to be recognised for outstanding performance throughout the year.
“The feelings are always good to achieve something after handwork. Thanks to God, my family, workmates, friends and those who have supported me and continue to support me in divers’ ways. Let me dedicate this to the Sierra Leone Swimming, Diving and Water Polo Association especially the 2016 Olympic Games debutant and the country’s flag bearer, Bunturabie Jalloh and her family for the time they render me while doing my work,” Morris said adding that he is now setting sight on international award.
This was Morris Jr. fifth Media award after winning the Independent Media Commission Sports Reporting awards in 2012 and 2013. Also in the same year, he won the inaugural National Youth Excellence Awards for Media. The Youth Excellence Awards was organized by Ms. Vickie Remoe, a business development executive at Vickie Remoe & Co and Managing Editor at Swit Salone and the awards was to recognize the efforts of young Sierra Leoneans making a difference in their country and amongst their peers.
