Detective Sergeant 1513 Mohamed Duada Kabba has told the Magistrate Court No.2 presided over by Magistrate Komba Kamanda that the accused military officers were charged with murder based on the death certificate produced by the government pathologist.

Det. Sgt. Kabba told the court the matter was reported on 28 February 2014 by Major A.M. Thaimu and a team of military personnel who also handed the accused persons to him.

The prosecution witness explained that he and Major Thaimu conveyed the corpse to Connaught hospital for post-mortem, which was performed on 5 March, 2014 by government pathologist, Dr. Owizz Koroma, in his presence.

He said that on 6th February 2014, a joint team of police officers and military police, including Staff Sergeant Koroma, visited the crime scene at the Arms Forces Training Center at Benguima.

He said the team, headed by one Sergeant Major Samura, combed Kabba Hall, venue of the altracation between the accused military officers and the deceased.

He said that on 7 March, 2014, Detective Police Constable 6585 Arnold J.F., in the presence of Staff Sergeant Koroma, interrogated the accused, while the matter was charged to court on 13 March.

Under cross-examination by lead defence counsel G.B. Kanneh, the witness said did not take statement from other witnesses, and that the death certificate was handed over to him by Dr. Owizz Koroma on 15 March, which he used to charge the accused persons.

It could be recalled that three military officers, Major Samuel Munda Momodu, Lieutenant Henry Lamin Sesay and Lieutenant Alhaji Borbor Sheriff were arraigned on one count of conspiracy to commit murder, contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

The prosecution alleges that the accused, on 26 February, at the Armed Forces Training Center at Benguima, had murdered one Corporal Charles Amadu Williams.

The matter continues.
