Orange Telecom, one of the leading GSM providers in the country, yesterday (Tuesday 21st May) donated food items worth millions of Leones to Masjeed Almumin at Kroobay community in Freetown.
Orange Telecom, earlier this month launched its special Sunakati promotion where Sierra Leoneans using their network stood the chance to win daily, weekly, monthly and yearly food supply, plus money for sauce.
Cooperate Social Manager at Orange, Desmond Spaine, stated that the company was not only operating in the country for profit , but also care for subscribers hence they were prompted to launch the promotion as a means of giving back to society.
He said every year during the Holy Month of Ramadan, they donate food items worth millions of Leones to Muslims across the country as part of their social cooperate responsibilities.
He stated that Masjeed Almumin was fortunate to be part of the selected mosques across the country.
He highlighted some of the services they offered to their customers, adding that the company had donated ten bags of rice, three jerry cans oil, two bags of powder milk, two Catton Gino tomato, two bags of sugar and one box jumbo Maggie.
He said they decided to give food items to Muslims because some of them don’t have something to breakfast, but that could not stop them from fasting as it is one of the pillars of Islam and it mandatory for every right thinking Muslim to fast.
Chief Imam of Masjeed Almumin, Sheik Alusine Abass Kamara thanked orange for the donation,stating that it is important to them and pleaded with them to continue the good work they have started, adding that Orange was the first mobile company that have donated to them.
He said they at the community were happy for the gesture, thus praying to God to continue elevating the company and pleaded with them to support them with building materials as they were construction part of the mosque.
