One billion Leones bail for 419ers

The Principal Magistrate of Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1, Dr. Abou Bakar Binneh-Kamara has granted bail to one Alhassan Bangura and Damba Koroma in the sum of one billion Leones and one surety each in like sum and sureties must produce title deeds and national passports.

The accused persons were charged with one count of conspiracy contrary to law and the prosecution also alleged that on diverse dates between April, 2011 and December, 2016, at Adonkia, Goderich village, the duo conspired together with others unknown and obtained the sum of seven million United States Dollars from a Ghanaian national, Fitnat Omari Ababio, with the pretext that they have a quantity of diamond and gold for sale, knowing same to be false.

Defence Lawyer, A. K. Kamara, argued that the matter should be thrown out of court for want of prosecution witness, adding that even if the matter continues, the prosecution would also not present evidence to the court.

He pleaded with the Bench to consider a review of the bail previous condition, considering the rate at which the matter was dealt with by the prosecution.

He said the complainant was not in the country and has never been in court to prove her allegation.

Meanwhile, the accused persons were earlier granted bail in the sum of eight million United States Dollars but they could not meet the bail condition.

The matter was adjourned to June 20th 2017.
