The Metrological Department of Sierra Leone has no official vehicle to perform its day-to-day administration.
In an exclusive interview, principal superintendent at the department who was recalled to filled the vacuum left as a result of brain drain at the ailing department, Hamed Momoh, told Concord Times at their head office on Charlotte Street in Freetown that the institution needs official vehicles to carry its routine work, but that despite several appeals to government, nothing has been done in that regard.
“One of our challenges is lack of vehicles,” he said, adding that plans are underway to transform the department into an agency and that the current poor human resource capacity should be upgraded.
Mr. Momoh is however grateful to the UK Metrological Department which recently donated equipment to the department, which saw the installation of an automatic weather station at the proposed new airport in Mamamah, Fourah Bay Collage, Njala University and Rokupr respectively.
